After nearly 10 years of blogging I still get asked,..
How do you find stuff to blog about and where do you find the time?
It is a fair question and in the beginning my answer might have been.. I don’t know. But now, after my blog going through the natural evolution every blogger takes overtime (or should) of changing directions a few times, I have come just blog about whatever pops into my mind…which over this past year has been a lot.
However, like all bloggers, finding time to sit down and blog about all of the stuff in my mind right now is not happening.
Blogging Has Changed
Still, I find blogging a great release..a great way to document my thoughts. Unfortunately, almost 40% of the time I never finish the blog I started. Why? Well, that is one of the beauties of blogging. It makes me think things out loud.
Sometimes what I thought was a great topic to blog about was really not. It was not until I started writing my thoughts in the blog I found out that I was ..gasp..wrong in my thinking on an issue…or the issue was really not an issue. Many times once I get into writing the blog I find what I have to say is moot.
This is one reason why I tell my students to start blogging before they post anything in the social spaces. Thinking out a position on an issue or have a complete thought on an issue before going off half cocked does help keep someone from being embarrassed online.
Where Blog Ideas Come From
Today, my readers, followers and my many Google Plussers, keep me busy with all the questions they ask me nearly hourly. That makes for an endless stream of blogging material.
But, this gets me back to that Time thing. How do I get a blog written for every idea I have or question someone else has to ask?
The time it takes to blog is an issue and blogging does take time..so make a plan and then Get After It..is what I tell my students. Still, how to blog about usually is the only thing that is keeping many people from blogging.
Videos Work
This brings me to where I am today and why I partnered up with Mark Neace of KEYimage Media. Video is one media that allows for time the time it takes to write a blog to be condensed. Plus it allows for more viewers since video is naturally married to audio which allows people to listen to the video in case they are driving somewhere.
For blogging, video blogs make documenting the issue quicker and more spontaneous.
So, since our partnering we have been working to get my blog into a video format. Of course this presents an list of challenges, but that is why I am KEYimage Media Director of Operations. It is me and my staff’s responsibility to overcome those issues keeping me off the air..sort of speak.
The challenges change from day to day, but we are starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel..a long tunnel I may add since we have a long road too travel to get me in the studio to start Vlogging.
When to Blog
Along with the question of how to blog I usually spend more time explaining to those interested in blogging or, now vlogging, on WHEN to blog. What day of the week is best to post blogs?
My answer a few years ago was much more scientific with viewership measurements on each day. That was when I found out how reliable any measurements reports are on anything done online. The bottomline I have found is anytime is a good time to post a blog.
Google+ is a Must for Bloggers..PERIOD!
When Google launching G+ they clearly had in mine to take back the Search Engines from the manipulators and level the playing field for content provides..yes, Bloggers are the number one Content Provider. So, when you launch a blog post off your WordPress platform and post the link to your G+ profile stream you just pulled both triggers on the double barrel shotgun that delivers your content to the internet.
Best Time is Right Now
It is not a matter of when you post a blog to the internet. It now has become more of a matter of where you post something on the internet.
No matter what your content is about it makes it worth doing knowing that someone is reading the content. From what I have found, over 90% of the blogs are found through a Google Search. Since G+ places the content it finds in Google+ first on the search engine it would behoove a Blogger to post to G+.
Still, the questions on the whens, wheres and whats of blogging weigh heavily on the new bloggers today. My advice is to just Get After It..blog when you can, look to Video Blogging to save time and make sure when you blog to make it worth the time it takes to blog.
Let me know how I can help.
