This is a series of blogs outlining what goes on during a typical day of my life. I am hoping you will find something I do that will help you improve your day or at least get a better understand of how some of the things confronted me and the way I handle them will give you some reference of how to deal with that issue when it happens to you.
Let’s pick up where I left off in Part 1
7:45PM
As I roll up the ramp of our office building indoor parking lot my thought turn towards anticipating what challenge will be the first to confront me once I get to the Fifth Floor and enter in “The Lab” .
My walk down the stairs of the parking lot to the back entrance to the building was, as usual, non-eventful however, the music they have piped into the stairway was extraordinarily louder and had a Rock theme. Not sure the parking lot stairway ws the place to break into an air guitar routine ..but I did it anyway.
7:50AM
I looked down at my wrist watch as I open the door to the building and saw I am about on time as 90% of the other days I arrive to work. The walk down the hall to the elevator is quiet…like I like it. Then the elevator door opens with the voice telling me..’Going Up!’
As the elevator doors closes I am immediately engulfed with the Jazz version of the Rolling Stones’.. Can’t You Hear Me Knocking. Kinda symbolic of what my day could be.
7:55AM
As I search my coat pocket for the office keys I start wondering if one of the other Foundry Club members had already made coffee. I swing open the studio door and head over to my desk where my right arm instinctively reach over to power on my Mac Mini. The tone of the Apple start up chime was my indicator of….Ding..time to Get After It!.
But first..coffee!!
8:00AM
As I head over to the Foundry Club kitchen to check on the status of the pot of coffee I was going over in mine the meeting schedule for this morning.
While I fill up my mug I receive the ‘Good Morning’ greetings from one of our fellow Foundry Club members and carry on the usually..What’s Up?…How’s business?…yada, yada, yada.
I headed back to the studio where my partner, Mark Neace, had just arrived.
8:10AM
The first staff meeting of the day starts as a stand up in studio 1 to go over the Gotta Do list and then the expectations of the out comes with the client shoot scheduled in a less than two hours.
Then a quick chat on the meeting scheduled at 1PM to make final decisions on the major project for 2015. The meeting ends with the need for more coffee.
8:15AM
I finally get back to my desk, climb into my chair to take the first look at the world presented to me by Google.
Now I am working two 24″ High Res monitors filled with every tool I will use throughout the day for at least four accounts I manage.
As always..there are a number of private Google+ Chats flashing waiting on my response, a few hundred emails accumulated since I cleared them earlier this morning and of course there are my Google Plussers eagerly waiting for me to Get After It!
Ding..another Google+ Hangout request…my Plusser “A List” is lining up to either ask a question, tell me a story, provide me the heads up on what ‘so-n-so’ is saying, giving me a new recipe for a Grilling Seasoning I need to use, wanting me to review an endorsement contract for a product review, telling me what time their tee time is….Yep…Google+ is hooping and this is just in my Private world of trusted Plussers.
I look over to the G+ stream. There they are..the dreaded .gifs…Mute…mute..mute.
Now for a few seconds I can see the post made by my Plusser friend who reports on the DIY trends in Video production…and then another .gif..mute….
Then pops up a photo of this awesome looking plate of fajita that was grilled last evening by a friend in San Antonio…BAM..another .gif …mute.
OH well…maybe one day Google will grow up.
8:30AM
Mark yells into “the Lab” from the studio requesting my review of the edit of the video he is working…I pop up from my chair, grab my coffee and step into the editing bay to lay eyes on the 50″ editing monitor along with the greeting of “what do ya think?..
BAM the monitor goes into motion and I begin to stair at the details. A few seconds go by and I give Mark the thumbs up and saying…Go for it!” I step back to “The Lab” to Get After It”..but first..more coffee.
8:45AM
As I am walking back from the kitchen with my refill of coffee one of the Foundry Club members stops me to ask what our calendar looks like next month for us to do their video shoot. As I reach for my phone to call up “The Lab’s” calendar I see we are about ten minutes away from the set up for the client shoot we have this morning. I cleared with the Foundry Member we looked good for his date and rush into Studio 1 to start doing what I do.
9:15Am
A test message pops on my phone screen while I am completing the set up of the Teleprompter for it’s first test run. The message was from a business associate in Sedona, AZ. The phone rings..it was my Sedona associate greeting me with..”are You Ready to Get After It?” I walked out of the Studio and headed to “The Think Tank” to take the call.
10:00AM
Walking back into Studio 1 after meeting with my Sedona business our client had arrive and was standing on ‘Mark’ in front of the camera ready to make their first run through for their shoot…I wave over to Mark standing by Camera 1 and shout..”ready on the Front”…he replays “Going for take One, Camera 1 rolling”…I reply back ready in…3…2…point to the client…BAM…my day is shifting into ‘Road Gear’ and about to hit the straight away.
10:30AM
“That’s a Wrap” was gleefully shouted by Mark meaning the video shoot was over and was time to breakdown to get ready for whatever was on the schedule next which is under my control. So I shout…”we are clear until 1PM” and the Mark exits with the client to review next steps for the shoot and I head to “The Lab” to see what is going on back in La La Land. But first..I need to check on the coffee in the kitchen.
10:45AM
As I push back my desk chair to stand at my desk and work….my eyes hit on monitor 1 where the count of G+ Hangout chats were again lined up..only three..good.
Now it was time to check on our client’s accounts..clicking on Google Analytics…looks good…the usual steady decline across the board on Facebook activity. G+ activity spiking after client videos hit YouTube the previous morning..check.
Click over to Twitter to see how that was going…the usual steady stream of incomprehendable posts filled with hashtags and no interaction to any of the client’s posts made by their CRM.
Back to Google+..account pages are active..a few client’s CRM’s are in conversation with their Plussers..I see one client needing help in generating activity..note that client’s inslightly account of the need for follow up G+ training…time to move on..
11:15AM
Feel hungry..see I have a gift certificate from Old Chicago Pizza joint that just opened up in Mockingbird Station…I shout out to the Studio…”what ya think about burning these Gift Certificates on some pizza”? and like an echo I hear…”Let’s do it!”..so we are off to get lunch before the big meeting at 1PM.
12:30PM
As I walked into “The Lab” I glanced over to my monitor 2 where all our SyncLab Media activity is up on screen and I see one of the investors we are talking to on the big 2015 project was asking me a question on the revenue projections I was working on. OH how I love Operations…bring it on..
As I dug into ‘Google Sheet Comment’ conversation I looked over to Monitor 2 to click on the Square Groove Radio tab.
I hit the Player and BAM..”The Lab” monitor filled the office with the voice of Chris Kulturides, one of our voice over talents, saying…” I know…just when you thought you were going to listen…” which was immediately followed by Sammy Hagar with Van Halen hammering out ‘Pound Cake’…
Break out the air guitar….OH this is going to be an awesome day.
to be continued…..
