  • Knowing Your Opponent In Golf and Business

Posted on November 2nd, 2009 MrBusinessGolf Comments

I run into people like myself all the time who play golf with new clients or vendors to get to know them better before doing business with them.  Playing business golf with someone helps in gathering a better understanding of their needs, wants and abilities.

Generally, a round of golf between two or more people can ether be a friendly round of golf to enjoy the day or it can be a formal competition.  Either way, playing golf with someone shows more than their skill at the game..or the lack of. them.

There is one thing that many of the people I talk to, who play golf with potential customers, forget about this opportunity.  It shows you not only their golf skills but their opponents’ personality.

How often have you gone to a coffee shop meeting with a potential client and been able to see their TRUE personality?  My studies show that over 88% of the time the Coffee Shop experience results in seeing a person’s ‘sales pitch’ personality which is never their True personality.

How powerful would it be to know the person’s true personality before you attempt to talk business?  If a person is high strung or low key, or humorous or depressed..knowing these personality traits before the business talk helps in knowing how to communicate more effectively. This results in hitting on the points that fits their needs.

Business Golf is a very powerful tool that many shun away from as a frilly form of entertainment.  In the studies I have done most people who shun away from playing business golf usually know that their personality weaknesses will be shown.

The advantage of knowing your opponent in golf and business really helps improve building solid business relationships and making a sale. Playing golf with people improves more than your handicap..it improves your business golf handicap.  Try it sometimes. It really works.

Let me know how I can help.

The strength of Social Media is in the efforts put into delivering the GTG mission to the public in a Social manor. Social Networking now is mainstream marketing.

The World of Marketing Has Changed

Since October 2008, when the bottom fell out of the business world, the trust people had with anyone in any business evaporated with the economy. Social Media had already been highlighted in the preceding Presidential campaigns… Read More

Was it just for fun or intended as a joke? Was it more than it turned out to be or what we hoped it to be? Are the stars of the CK vs JR golf match yesterday before the Super Bowl geniuses or just out to have fun?  The answer to all of these and hundreds of other questions is…

    YES!

What a great day… Read More

6 years ago when I took on my mission to heighten the awareness of Golf’s virtues as an effective business tool I became exposed to what is now called Social Media.  More specifically, Social Media for Golf is it is totally different for golf than the mainstream of the business community.  Seeing where Golf has gone since the hay days of a bright economy and where it is now I… Read More
