  • Nike SQ DYMO STR8 FIT: What’s in a Name?

Posted on June 26th, 2009 MrBusinessGolf Comments

As most of you know, I did a review of the Nike SQ DYMO STR8-FIT driver up against the TaylorMade R9.  Both of these drives are representative of the New adjustable clubhead technology developed to adjust the ball flight to each players advantage.

I still carry the driver in my bag and from time to time launch a drive at different clubhead configurations. I think the most interesting thing that happens when I set up shop at the range is how all the people I know stop by to comment on my review and asking if the NIKE in my bag was the driver I tested.  In a way the STR 8 has made me a some sort of celebrity…yaw right.

What gets me going is when I let other people hit the driver and adjust the head to different configuration so they can see how it works.  What has developed is more information on the characteristics of the STR 8.

What I concluded was that the more golf skill a golfer has the more benefit the STR8 has for them.  For the guy who has a ‘Happy Right Shoulder’ (for a right handed golfer) or is just beginning the STR 8 adjusted to any configuration is not going to keep him from driving the ball into his left shin or send the ball off the tee in a violent duck slice with the clubhead adjusted for a hard hook.

The beauty of the STR8 is to see it swung by a Professional’s.  Seeing the ball fly off the club like a shot from a rifle with the sound like a howitzer cannon going off just has a whole different feel than the dump and dink a 32 handicapper swing produces.

Don’t get me wrong, there were some 32 handicappers who were hitting the STR8 better than the Dynamo Deluxe Wal-mart special they were comparing it to.

The other thing I found humorous about the approach many of my friends had to asking about the STR8 was in what they would call the club.  Since the name DYMO and STR8 are not what most people want to call the STR8 it was funny what names they gave the club just to keep from trying to call it by its name.

I still think Nike should reconsider these names for at least the next generation of the club they come out with next year.

    I had people calling it…

    ‘DINO-Head’ ‘Ratchet-Head’ and the ‘Transformer’…

The ladies called it ‘Cutie’, ‘Big Boy’ and ‘Crank-er’?..at least I think they were talking about the Nike…

Then I had the classics..  ‘That Thing’, ‘Wild Thing’ ,‘Big Dog’ and ‘Monster’

    And a new one …

    “U-Da-Man” !?!

Yaw, I had to ask why they called it that and after hearing why it was perfectly obvious.

The guy called it the ‘U-Da-Man’ club because every time David Duval hit the STR8 at the US Open it would make this sound…’U-Da-Ma’.  I couldn’t dispute that…

Maybe Lefty should change over to to using the ‘U-Da-Man” since his ‘Get-N-Da-Hole’ club was not working for him.

I already said my piece on the name of the SQ DYMO STR-8 FIT.  Just wanted to add a little more value to reviewing on how people see the New Nike DYMO STR8-FIT driver.  Try it and see what you think.

The strength of Social Media is in the efforts put into delivering the GTG mission to the public in a Social manor. Social Networking now is mainstream marketing.

The World of Marketing Has Changed

Since October 2008, when the bottom fell out of the business world, the trust people had with anyone in any business evaporated with the economy. Social Media had already been highlighted in the preceding Presidential campaigns… Read More

Was it just for fun or intended as a joke? Was it more than it turned out to be or what we hoped it to be? Are the stars of the CK vs JR golf match yesterday before the Super Bowl geniuses or just out to have fun?  The answer to all of these and hundreds of other questions is…

    YES!

6 years ago when I took on my mission to heighten the awareness of Golf’s virtues as an effective business tool I became exposed to what is now called Social Media.  More specifically, Social Media for Golf is it is totally different for golf than the mainstream of the business community.  Seeing where Golf has gone since the hay days of a bright economy and where it is now I… Read More
