Where to Start Learning Golf

I am excited to visit with so many people interested in learning to play golf.  This means more people are finding golf to be fun.  This is GOOD for golf.

However, almost everyone of them ask where is the best place to start their golf experience.

Sometimes this answer is a preference on how you want to be taught to play golf.  For some they want to be pampered into learning. For others they just want to get out on the golf course the quickest way possible.

I have tried all the methods, from a series of individual lessons to multiple day golf clinics.  The method I prefer and recommend to beginners wanting to learn all of what they are going to get into in golf quickly is to attend a golf school.  There are a lot of golf schools out there and offer everything form A to Z in learning and price.

I suggest you find a good golf school located out of town since that takes away the distractions of the office and home. 

A golf school exposes a beginner to everything they will need to learn to play golf.  Everything from swinging the golf club, to playing out of hazards, trouble shots, pitching and chipping, putting, course management, etiquette and the rules.  All in one or two sessions.  Individual lessons may do nothing but focus on swinging the golf club.  Don’t get me wrong..swinging the club and sticking the ball solidly is the basic fundamental of golf, so learning how to swing the club correctly at the beginning leads to a solid golf foundation.

There are different type of schools, or styles of teaching.  Some golf schools will require you to learn a specific technique of a swing while others will take you already developed swing and enhance it so you can strike the ball effectively. 

Some golf schools instructors like to lecture and demonstrate more than letting you find out what is natural for you.

There are golf schools that are run like boot camps, where you hit the ground running  from one area of golf learning after another hitting golf balls all day long, while others may take a classroom approach then introduce you to the game gradually.

So, when looking at golf schools, ask questions on how they teach and find the one that fits your style or interest.
